Connecting Commerce and Community

Transportation has always been the lifeline for industry and agriculture—the critical link connecting people with essential goods and services. Being at the center of that link is the most dynamic part of American commerce, and we have devoted our lives to ensuring it remains unbroken.

Every year, our drivers safely move tons of freight and produce across California and beyond. We achieve this by instilling an unwavering commitment to our customers across our entire team and by recognizing that our family of employees is our greatest asset. Our industry-leading retention rates reflect this culture: when employees are valued, they consistently deliver safe, honest, and reliable work. Integrity and safety are the foundational values behind the strong, permanent relationships we build with our team, vendors, and customers. The longevity of these partnerships is true testament to the strength of those values.

OUR HISTORY

A Legacy Built on Motion

The Altnow family’s roots in the transportation industry trace back to 1935. In the 1930s, the San Joaquin Valley was a rugged yet fertile region—a superior place to cultivate crops. Recognizing the need to move these goods to cities and export markets, Arthur Altnow founded Lodi Truck Service in 1935 with a single truck.

As demand grew, Arthur expanded his vision to create a more efficient, dependable transport network connecting Northern California to the rest of the nation. Throughout the 1940s, 50s, and 60s, he added equipment, expanded from agriculture into dry freight, and helped pioneer intermodal shipments across California. His leadership earned him state and national recognition, serving as President of the California Trucking Association in 1960 and later as Vice President of the American Trucking Associations.

After years of working alongside their father, brothers Don and Dennis Altnow carried that experience forward. In 1981, with just two trucks and two sets of trailers, they founded Tiger Lines—a name symbolizing power, speed, and efficiency. Their vision was clear: build a responsive team of logistics experts who could immediately adapt to customer needs. Starting with palletized feed, wine tankers, cased wine, and high-cube double vans for the packaging industry, the brothers brought their vision to life with the support of trusted friends, family, and key professional partners.

Today, Tiger Lines is recognized as a premier carrier. As one long-standing customer noted: “I can always rely on them to be responsive, reliable, safe, and economical. From pickup to delivery, their team keeps us informed every step of the way.”

Many of our shippers and processors have contracted with us continuously since our founding, and we proudly consider them part of our extended family. To preserve this legacy, our family shareholders and executive team are dedicated to structured succession planning and hiring the best professional managers, drivers, dispatchers, mechanics, safety personnel, and administrative staff in the industry.

Today’s world is continually moving, and Tiger Lines is here to move with you. We invite you to explore our services and contact our team to assist with your logistical needs.
